Flat pedals, clipless pedals, and cleats.
Clipless pedals attach your cycling shoes to the bike, while flat pedals let you ride in ordinary shoes and move your feet freely. Choose based on your riding, shoe preferences, and comfort with clipping in and out.
New clipless riders need pedals that match their shoes and riding style, with release tension they can manage. This guide compares road and mountain-bike options, including dual-sided designs that retain a platform for regular shoes.
